Sunset in the Forest

time & love

         TIME

DF  06.26

Why does it stand still when we’re sad,

and run away when we’re having fun?

A thief, a gift, a mirror.

It morphs as we age, decade by decade,

slips away between our fingers,

passes by while we’re looking elsewhere,

flies further before we learn to hold on.

Ticking away in quiet rooms,

it carves out the lines upon our faces,

then speeds up when we least expect it,

moving us forward by putting us back.

It runs over what we’ve built,

without shame or remorse.

As nature has it, buys a moment

and kills another, just because.

Walk through it with the spirits

of ancestors, of yesterday’s self

that younger face, those older hands,

the versions we’ve already left behind.

Every day is a good time to love.

A currency spent without counting,

until we count.
